Water Boreholes & Ground Source Heat Pumps in Horsham

Specialist drilling and renewable heating services for properties in Horsham and across West Sussex. Free site assessment, no-obligation written estimate.

Nicholls has worked across West Sussex for over 20 years, with 227 completed projects across the county to date. Properties in Horsham can benefit from the same in-house design, drilling, installation and servicing teams that have completed water boreholes and ground source heat pump systems for homeowners, farms and commercial sites across the wider region.

We work Horsham alongside our other West Sussex projects — free site assessment, geological desk study and a written estimate before any work starts. If a borehole or GSHP isn't the right fit for your site, we'll tell you straight.

Geology around Horsham

🧭

Horsham sits on the Weald Clay, with Lower Greensand to the south. Water boreholes typically need to drill through clay to reach the underlying sandstone — usually 80-120m. Closed-loop GSHP is well-suited to the geology and is the dominant Horsham-area heating-conversion choice. Our Kirdford office sits ~10 miles south-west of Horsham; we work this corner of the county more than any other.

Wider West Sussex context: Much of southern West Sussex sits above the chalk aquifer — one of the most productive groundwater sources in England. Boreholes in the Chichester and Arundel areas typically reach productive water between 30m and 80m depth. The Wealden Clay belt around Billingshurst, Kirdford and Horsham requires deeper drilling into the underlying sandstone, and water from this geology often requires iron and manganese treatment before use. The Lower Greensand around Pulborough and Storrington offers good yields at moderate depth.

Every site is different. A site-specific desk study is the starting point for any project — we cover that as part of the free site assessment.
