Water Boreholes & Ground Source Heat Pumps in Oxfordshire

Over 18 projects completed across Oxfordshire. Free site assessments and no-obligation estimates.

Oxfordshire is an emerging area for Nicholls with 18 completed projects, primarily around the Chilterns fringe and the Vale of White Horse. The county offers good potential for both water boreholes (particularly in the chalk and limestone areas) and ground source heat pump systems for the many off-gas-grid properties across rural Oxfordshire.

Local geology in Oxfordshire

🧭

Oxfordshire geology ranges from the chalk of the Chilterns in the south-east (productive aquifer, good for water and GSHP) through Jurassic limestone in the Cotswolds to Oxford Clay in the vale. The Henley and Wallingford area benefits from chalk aquifer. The Witney and Burford area sits on Jurassic limestone — also productive but with different water chemistry. Oxford Clay in the central vale is more challenging for water supply but suitable for closed-loop GSHP.

Every site is different. A desk-based geological assessment is always the starting point for any project.
