Specialist GSHP Services
Pre-design and feasibility services for ground source heat pump projects. Sold standalone — sized for the moment before capital is committed, when getting the answers right matters most.
Beyond designing and installing complete GSHP systems, our in-house GSHP team delivers two specialist services as standalone offerings — both sold before installation, both aimed at de-risking the design and investment decision.
We work for site owners directly, for designers and consultants commissioning evidence on behalf of clients, and for developers who need pre-investment certainty. All services are delivered by our employed technical team — not subcontracted.
Looking for diagnostic, rehabilitation or compliance services for water boreholes and soakaways instead? See specialist water borehole & soakaway services.
Our specialist GSHP services
Each service is sold standalone with a fixed scope and a written quotation. Both are commonly used together — TRT data feeds into the feasibility study's sizing model.
Thermal Response Testing (TRT)
Get your GSHP design right, first time.
Industry-standard test that measures the thermal properties of your ground, so your GSHP designer can size the borehole array with confidence — saving capital cost on oversized installations and avoiding the much-higher cost of an undersized one.
We drill a single test borehole and install a ground heat exchanger, then circulate fluid at a controlled rate while logging temperature data over 48–72 hours. The output is precise values for ground thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance — the two numbers a system designer needs to correctly size the full borehole field. Test data is presented as a written report with the underlying logged data attached.
When you might need it
Pre-design phase on any commercial-scale GSHP project · de-risking multi-borehole arrays · pre-tender technical evidence · planning-application support · refurbishing or extending an existing GSHP system where original design data is missing
GSHP Feasibility Studies
Know before you commit.
A pre-investment assessment of whether a GSHP will work technically and make financial sense for your project. The wrong site, the wrong system or the wrong design assumption can turn a great idea into an expensive problem — the feasibility study gives you the answers before any capital is committed.
We assess every factor that determines whether a GSHP system will work technically and make financial sense — ground conditions, available land, heat demand profile, planning constraints, regulatory exposure, BUS or non-domestic grant scoping, and the wider funding picture. Output is a written feasibility report with indicative system sizing, capital-cost banding, predicted operating performance, and a clear go / no-go recommendation with reasoning.
When you might need it
Pre-acquisition due diligence · early-stage development planning · refurbishment or retrofit decision · BUS or non-domestic grant scoping · ESG / green-finance reporting · estate-wide energy-strategy planning
Related GSHP services
Specialist services typically lead into one of our installation tracks. The pages below cover those.
Closed-loop GSHP
Vertical or horizontal closed-loop systems for residential, commercial and large-estate sites.
Open-loop GSHP
Direct groundwater systems where geology and abstraction licensing make them the most efficient choice.
River-source heat pumps
Surface-water source systems for sites with river or canal access. Strong COP, EA-licensable abstraction.
