Water Boreholes & Ground Source Heat Pumps in Somerset

Over 4 projects completed across Somerset. Free site assessments and no-obligation estimates.

Somerset offers some of the most varied groundwater geology in southern England — from the limestone of the Mendips through the alluvial Levels to the Greensand of the Blackdowns. We've worked across the county on water boreholes and GSHP projects in the rural areas around Frome, Shepton Mallet, Wells and the Mendip villages.

Local geology in Somerset

🧭

The Somerset Mendips are dominated by Carboniferous Limestone — productive aquifers but often with karst features that complicate drilling and abstraction licensing. The Levels are alluvial and shallow groundwater is widespread but often unsuitable for potable supply without significant treatment. The Blackdown Hills Greensand on the south Somerset border offers more straightforward aquifer conditions. Shipham and Cheddar areas (Mendip foothills) have particularly good GSHP potential due to the limestone's thermal properties.

Every site is different. A desk-based geological assessment is always the starting point for any project.
