Water Boreholes & Ground Source Heat Pumps in Cornwall
Over 3 projects completed across Cornwall. Free site assessments and no-obligation estimates.
Cornwall sits at the western edge of our coverage. We work selectively across the county on larger commercial and high-value residential projects, drawing on our 25+ years of UK drilling experience to deliver water boreholes and ground source heat pump installations in Cornwall's distinctive geology. For projects with the right scale and complexity, the long mobilisation is part of a deliberate engagement — site assessments are remote-first wherever possible, with drilling crews on site only when the project is fully designed and the EA licence (if required) is in hand.

Cornwall's geology is dominated by Carboniferous to Permian granite batholiths — Carnmenellis, Land's End, Bodmin Moor, St Austell — set within Devonian and Carboniferous slates, mudstones and sandstones (the local "killas"). For water boreholes, granite is a fractured aquifer: yields depend on the fracture network, typically requiring 60-120m to reach productive fissures. Water from granite areas is generally soft, low-mineralisation and slightly acidic — corrosion treatment is sometimes needed. For ground source heat pumps the granite is exceptional — high thermal conductivity, stable temperature, and the rock's strength means borehole walls remain self-supporting. The slate "killas" areas drill more straightforwardly but yields are typically lower. Cornwall's mining heritage means some areas require pre-drilling mine-shaft and mine-water hazard assessment before site selection.
Every site is different. A desk-based geological assessment is always the starting point for any project.
