Overview
Nicholls were engaged to give a Berkshire garden designer's property its own private water supply for irrigating the gardens, reducing reliance on mains water.
About the project
The garden now has a supply of its own. Water is drawn from deep underground rather than the mains, so bills are lower and the planting is no longer at the mercy of hosepipe bans. Watering can carry on through dry summers, and it makes sensible, eco-friendly use of natural groundwater. For a client who designs gardens for a living, that independence matters.
Nicholls drilled a single borehole to 167 m, reaching water in the Chalk. The work was done in two stages. The upper section was lined with steel to 101 m and sealed with cement grout to protect the water source. The hole was then continued into the Chalk to its final depth. An independent laboratory checked the water quality.
The result is a dependable private supply that keeps the garden thriving whatever the weather. Nicholls remain on hand for servicing and water-quality monitoring, so the borehole keeps performing for years to come.
Working alongside the client’s garden designer, we gave the property its own water supply for the garden from 167 meters down in the Chalk. We kept everyone updated at every stage, from planning through to testing, and the garden can now be watered without relying on the mains
