Deep Clean 56no. Recovery Wells
Fairlight, Hastings
30m deep each
56no recovery wells
Overview
Nicholls were engaged by Rother Council to deep clean and maintain a network of 56 recovery wells in Fairlight, Hastings, and to give the Council a clear picture of the condition of this vital system.
About the project
Rother Council now has a fully cleaned and maintained recovery well system, along with a clear understanding of how it is performing. The CCTV findings give the Council reliable information on the welfare of the system, so future decisions can be made with confidence. The Council was so pleased with the results that it asked Nicholls to provide regular servicing to keep the system in good order.
All 56 recovery wells were deep cleaned. CCTV surveys recorded the internal condition of a selection of the wells, and pumps were removed and some fittings replaced to keep the system working well. As a further measure of thoroughness, ten wells were given a second clean to make sure the finish met Nicholls' own standards. Throughout, the engineers built an excellent rapport with local residents. A weekly progress report kept every stakeholder informed, and a final report summarised the completed works.
The result is a well-maintained system with a clear plan behind it. Nicholls will return every six months and annually to carry out planned servicing, keeping the wells performing and preventing the system from falling into disrepair.
The residents are very appreciative of the works and have major investment in the project: their properties depend on the successful cleaning of the 56no. recovery wells to prevent further land subsidence. Nicholls Boreholes is rare in their ability to carry out the works; they facilitated the local council and all differing requirements of each invested party.
