Water neutrality solutions
Over 17 years' experience installing water boreholes and rainwater harvesting systems. Working with developers across Sussex to implement effective water neutrality solutions.
Nicholls water neutrality solutions
We are currently working with developers large and small in the Sussex North Water Resource Zone (SNWRZ) to implement effective water neutrality solutions, helping to overcome water supply challenges and keep developments moving forward.
Our fully managed, three-tier approach to water neutrality is tailored to suit the dynamics of each site and the urgency of securing planning approval.
Two routes to water neutrality
EA licensed supply
For sites consuming more than 20m³ of water per day, an abstraction licence from the Environment Agency is required. Although this process takes longer, it provides a secure and protected water supply.
The licensing process delivers the level of assurance needed by Natural England to approve the scheme, ensuring compliance with water neutrality guidelines.
Unlicensed supply
For sites using less than 20m³ per day, no licence is required. This allows for a faster planning process since the borehole can be drilled immediately.
We ensure water neutrality by providing proof of separation from the Hardham aquifer, verified by an independent leading hydrologist.
Our turnkey approach
Site assessment
Geological and hydrogeological assessment to determine the most appropriate water neutrality solution for your development.
Borehole design & drilling
Design, drill and install the borehole water supply system. For both licensed and unlicensed routes, we follow the same rigorous process.
Licensing (if required)
For sites over 20m³/day, we manage the full EA licence application process on your behalf.
Natural England approval
We provide all data required by Natural England to approve the scheme, ensuring robust evidence of water neutrality.
Ongoing management
We can adopt the borehole and act as the bulk supplier — complete with billing and customer service handled by a registered water reseller.
Currently working with 35+ developers across the SNWRZ, supporting water neutrality projects ranging from small developments of six houses to large-scale sites with thousands of homes.
